I've always wanted to paint an "invisible" Tyranid Lictor in the style of the Predator. However that would require either clear plastic, or a very specific background.
So instead, I painted it in thermal vision. Might be a bit out of lore since Lictors can lower their body heat to match ambient temperatures. But my head canon is that they only do that while staying still. Nids are known for having hyper metabolisms. That's why larger Nids have back vents, so they don't boil their innards.
Step 1- primed light blue/cyan
Step 2/3- drybrush royal blue and dark blue (nearly black
Step 4- paint white in the areas where heat bloom will be
Step 5- paint fluorescent yellow over all white areas
Step 6- paint fluorescent green around the edges of the yellow. This should slightly overlap the yellow and blue for a nice blend
Step 7- wash fluorescent orange in the recesses of the centers of the yellow areas. Paint should be fairly watered down to pool in the areas
Step 8- this is basically step 4 again because I wanted more of the "fleshy" parts to at least be green. If you plan out your areas of color, you don't need this step
Step 9- touch up all those white area green. Again this was steps 5/6 that I could have avoided if I planned better
Step 10- touch up a few areas with light blue/cyan
Finally, I put aquarium plants on the base and painted everything dark blue. Hope you enjoyed my tutorial!
